Ag Drone School - Outlook

Transport Canada has implemented new regulations to govern the operation of Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS). If you already operate one, the Ag Drone School will help prepare you for these rules that come into effect on June 1, 2019. Everyone operating a drone over 250 grams, regardless of whether the flight is for recreational or commercial purposes, will be required to register their drone and have a Pilot’s Certificate. Students will be encouraged to take the online test for Basic certification at the end of the two days – those who pass with a score of 65% or higher will leave with their Pilot’s Certificate.

Agricultural Value from RPAS:
• 101 uses for farm drones
• Intro to remote sensing
• NDVI and other vegetative indexes
• Sensors & calibration
• Near-infrared crop health mapping
• Multispectral data system introduction: Slantrange, Sentera, Micasense
• Livestock applications
• Hands-on:
• Practice mapping missions
• Create orthomomosaics / 3D models
• Software workflows for agronomy

RPAS Ground School:
• Prep for Pilot’s Certificate – Basic test
• Knowledge Requirements:
o Air law
o RPAS airframes & propulsion
o Human factors
o Meteorology
o Navigation
o Flight operations
o Theory of flight
• Safe flight operation – best practices
• Maintenance procedures
• Hands-on multicopter flight training

Registration cost is $590 for the two full days of instruction, lunches, and all supplies including a small DJI Tello training drone to keep. Register online or by phone at (780) 448-7445.
