Information for Designated Officers

This section provides information for Designated Officers responsible for administering the PIDA Act and Regulations within ministries and other Government agencies.

These procedures are designed to manage the receipt and handling of inquiries, requests for advice and disclosures within government institutions and are intended for the use by designated officers.

This document outlines the responsibilities under PIDA of the Deputy Minister or permanent head of a government organization.

If the designated officer determines the disclosure would more appropriately be dealt with by another government institution, the designated officer has the authority to refer the matter to that government institution for review and handling.

If the designated officer determines the disclosure would more appropriately be dealt with by another government institution, a letter is to be sent to the disclosing employee if the employee has agreed to receiving communication in writing. A PDF version of this letter is also available.

If it would be inappropriate for the designated officer to review a disclosure, the designated officer has the authority to refer the disclosure to the Office of the Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner for review and handling.
